At Gunpoint!

Please pray for a dear and very faithful family in our church, Raidy, Yulissa & their dear son Dariel (6 yrs.), as on their way home from a late evening spent with their family, they were pulled over by force at gunpoint, and were robbed of their motorcycle (only mode of trans.), Raidy’s wallet, and Yulissa’s purse. Yulissa had the gun at her much of the time. We got the message late Sat. evening, when John scrambled to his feet to go find them, as they were left on foot on a dark street. Thank God their lives were not harmed! The robbers did not take Raidy’s cel phone, which was what made it possible to communicate, thereafter. We took Dariel to our house, while the other two barely slept the night away.

Please pray that our enemy does not steel (John 10:10) any of their joy, peace or faith, but rather, God receives ALL glory, and builds their faith thru this!

Back Home!

It is great to be back home! We have been away for 2 1/2 months, and we have never gone away during the summer months…why?…because we conduct VBS, Youth Camp, host N. American youth groups, conduct Seminary and host Shannon Hampton. Well, praise God, Edwin and the church did it all, and did a fantastic job!! What great training for them. We were thrilled.

Today in church there were around 150 in attendance, packed out, needless to say, and soooo many cars and soooo little space. But thankfully, the gentleman across the street is allowing us to use his parking lot on Sundays.

Tonight, John has his regularly scheduled Sunday night “down to the drawing board” meeting with the top most faithful men in the church, where he encourages, teaches, challenges and gives out responsibility for upcoming weeks.

A few upcoming events to pray about:

*Our first baby shower for Janel, this Wed. night, that it would be edifying, encouraging and of a sweet spirit.

*Our first wedding this December for Gregoris & Gery. That it also would be a beautiful example of purity and a Christ-honoring example to all guests who attend. Please pray for this young couple as they begin a new God-fearing generation.

Happy Anniversary! We celebrate 7 yrs. at Vida Nueva!!!

This past Sunday we thankfully celebrated 7 years here officially at “Iglesia Bautista Vida Nueva”. It has been a long, hard road that brings such rewards as: looking around the service at different faces that have chosen to give their lives to the Lord and allow Him to “turn them completely around”, some have fallen and been completely restored, their have been heartaches and highs, so many servants of the Lord working and doing their part in the ministry, it has been worth every moment and every struggle. 3 John 4 exclaims it best, “There is no greater joy than to know that my children walk in the Lord!” Adults alone we had 145, add another 46 children ages 4-11, plus another 4 babies!!! Wow, we had a good time. I ordered 5 lbs. (thats how you order it here:)) of cake and we had juice at “the Patio” of the church (we’re getting sophisticated now).

Tomorrow we leave for the states, and are “passing the baton” onto Edwin & Milly. PLEASE pray for them as they will be doing our VBS, hosting a group from Statesboro, GA, preaching all services as well as the Wed. night studies. Please pray that when they feel week, they KNOW without a shadow of doubt, that that is when HE is strong! We pray for encouraging and hard-working helpers to be at their side, and for their physical and spiritual strength.

We are leaving on a very bittersweet note, as we will be accompanied by my bro. and sister in law, Trey and Laura Joyner (Laura Webb). They will be going for good, as they feel a compassion and need to minister stateside. They are soo excited and feel complete peace from the Lord, yet making that change and saying good byes never comes easy. Our people have absolutely fallen in love with them, and we envy those that will be receiving them stateside.

Thanks so much for your continual prayers towards us and the ministry. We are so thankful for you!

Lots in the Making!

Well, we are just blessed to be able to have the “edificio B” as we call it (building B)! Sunday school this past Sunday was PACKED as we held 24 children in the 4-6 yr. old class with Teacher Francheska and Lilibeth, and 22 in the 7-11 yr. old class with myself, Christian and Amalia!!! Poor Francheska came to me with sweatbeads all over her face and a breathy exhausted voice, “Miss Kelly, can I have another helper?”, needless to say, we were all WIPED OUT at the end of the day! The heat is roaring in at full spead and I’m trying to “convince” Pastor John that we NEED an air conditioner back in these rooms!!! – don’t know if I’ve convinced him yet:);)

Biggest day of the year is coming up this Sunday – Mother’s Day! in the D.R. and we are ready, we are preparing a beautiful card with a poem on it for each mother along with 2 chocolates. All the teen girls will be decorating. We hope to have a full and sweet service. Pray with us for a great morning!

Hope you all are doing really well! Have a wonderful week – God bless! Remember, He is our “Jehova Roi”, the God who Sees. He sees all our woes, burdens, heartbreaks, trials, and just like Hagar’s situation, He also sees those “unjust moments” that seem to be so frustrating. It is comforting to know that we can let it go, release it to Him, and know that our Jehovah Roi is in control.

We are looking forward to being with you all at Piney. Can’t wait to talk face to face!!!

God provides despite economic crisis!

We want to share with you a HUGE blessing that has just come to our email from a dear, dear man whom has recently lost his wife. They were a dear couple that we met while on deputation yrs ago up in Virginia. We didn’t speak much, but they remembered us…several yrs later, they called saying that they would like to come visit and see the work. They fell in love with the people and the church. God has tremendously blessed this couple economically, yet you would never know it. They were ready to come down on their second trip to the D.R. when the day before they were to fly out, his dear and precious wife went to be with the Lord. That trip never happened. They as a couple, donated a large sum to the purchase of the first church building “Building A” as we call it. Once again the gentleman got in contact with us to loan us another very large sum of money…2 days ago we received this note from our brother in Christ. I chose to post it here, because it speaks of a testimony to the Lord of a man who has given back to the Lord all of his possessions rather than keeping them “secure” in his own. I hope to live that kind of life, to place my life, my loves, my dreams, my possessions, my children in His hands rather than my own. I have chosen to keep this persons name anonymous, be blessed by this excerpt and my it serve as an example for us:

Regarding the Project: Exodus 25:8 program – the Lord has reminded me in the last couple of weeks that all I have comes from and belongs to Him. He has not blessed me just so I can be comfortable (although I definitely am) but also so that He can provide for others through me for His honor and glory. I am thankful that He has provided the funds for your final payment through the generosity of so many. He has taught me to keep my hands open so that He can add to the abundance of His gifts as He sees fit, but also so that when it is time to let go of some of that abundance for His purposes I don’t hold on too tightly. Therefore I would like to make the funds I provided as a gift now and not as a loan. Please accept this gift from the Lord. I trust and pray that He will continue to bless you all as you seek to serve Him daily and that He will bring many into His kingdom because of your faithfulness.

Thank you,Lord, for your faithfulness and goodness in spite of “economic crisis”. Thank you dear Father for providing.

Easter Sunday

5 years ago, Easter Sunday was our lowest attended – why? Holy Friday everybody sacrifices (you know, the meat), come the weekend and everybody scatters for the beach – it’s vacation! All the focus being on us sacrificing 1 day, and that’s about it…we knew something needed to change, things needed to be taught, the exciting news of our triumphal Saviour needed to be proclaimed and celebrated!!! And so, little by little, Scripture was “digested” into the hearts and minds of the people, and this most precious day of the year, is becoming the most cherished day at New Life Baptist. And so as this year’s Easter drew near, John could hardly concentrate…the worship team had special music they had been working soo hard on, our drama team was anticipating a thrilling play of Christ’s sacrifice, and John was bursting at the seams to give out the message that God had given him! Well, guess what?….the people kept coming, and coming, and coming, it was our highest attended normal service (no extra give outs) of 140!

My (kelly’s) parents, sis and bro – in – law were just here for 2 weeks visiting. What a wonderful time we all had together. We had an enjoyable day at “27 Waterfalls” (www.27charcos.com) as we literally “jumped” or “slid” down 27 falls. Quite a treat for us especially with the special company at our side!

I (kelly) am totally saturated with VBS – this will be the first in which the church will completely run on their own. I am soo proud of them, they will do an awesome job!

John’s life is depicted in “where there is no vision the people perish”. I have never met a man with such vision and drive. He has a passion that is soo contagious and I am thankful for him… he is dedicating these next few weeks to more intensive training of our leaders for preparation while we are gone. Please pray for him and the church as we “prep” them to carry on while we are gone for 2 1/2 months.

Ladies Retreat!

Wow! I just wanted to update you on a few things (as you can tell these posts are coming from Kelly):) Wait a minute – my coffee just got done perking and I NEED some…ok here I am with some good MonteReal coffee – the best from the mountains of Constanza (actually highest peek east of something or other – but really super high!) So let me tell you a bit about the awesome retreat….

Every Friday I get together with 3 other ladies from the church and discuss plans, make plans, divee out responsabilities, and we pray quite a bit together. For the last 5-6 weeks or so, we have been planning this retreat, but before each plan we prayed over it, such as even down to which games to play, how to make the schedule with what hours, everything was prayed over, I then challenged them with a list for each of all the ladies who would be going as of 2 weeks ago, to lift them up in prayer twice daily up until the retreat. God has been faithful and listened to our cries. In fact, Laura my sister-in-law, even remarked, “Kelly, when I saw the schedule I thought, ‘this was prayed over’ “. All retreat folders, I interpreted back into English so that the few ladies that speak only English would also have an opportunity to come. It was so gratifying to see them totally merge although a different language. There was such sweet harmony, God has begun a work in their hearts, I couldn’t have dreamed up a more beautiful retreat – God gave the very best! PLEASE pray with us that the fire that has begun would not be stifled, or burnt out, or slowly go out, but rather the contrary, only increase within their hearts, and thru that influence be a witness to the other ladies whom were not able to attend. Thank you all so very much for your prayers. Our theme was: “Not unto us, oh Lord, not unto us, but unto Thy name give glory, for Thy mercy and thy truth’s sake!” Psalm 115:1

ON ANOTHER NOTE, church was great this past Sunday with several having to sit on the floor. We are bursting at the seems. PLEASE also pray for the nursery ministry as I will be training a leader this month to be director in that area. We need to improve in that ministry. Thanks so much! Awarness in the Dominican Republic

Since a young boy, God has placed a heartfelt passion on John towards the Muslim World. Last year at Kelly’s Ladies Conference conducted at the church, a woman with “Women at Risk” ministries www.WARINTERNATIONAL.org came to speak. What an amazing woman she is, and as she spoke of the great needs there in certain Muslim countries, she then came out with a statement that was music to John’s ears: “There are unique opportunites for reaching Spanish- speaking communities in several areas of the Middle East, and we have come to see that the BEST person for evangelizing are the Latinos, not us Americans, as we can see soo many similarities between the 2 cultures” John became passionate at that moment! Long story short, we had a gentleman, Scott, come in to teach our people along with many other churches of like faith about their possibilities of short-term and even the possibility of long-term mission trips. We had an exciting and eventful full day, last Saturday, as we, Iglesia Bautista Vida Nueva, hosted one of the first break -thru exposures to possibilites for our dominican people here to even think, “what if…”, “could I?…”, “how would it all work?”, “I never thought about this type of outreach!”. Passion filled their hearts, and soo we pray and see what the future holds!

Day Full of Baptistisms

Sunday was packed as we had a great crowd with several visitors, but the best part was all the baptisms!!! There were 11 in total. One of those was Christian, who kept asking us about when he was going to “bow down”, I couldn’t figure out what he was talking about, and finally he said, “you know, when you ask Jesus in your heart, then you go to the church and go under the water:)”. Please pray with me (Kelly) as I am in need of more Sunday School teachers (they are all available, I am just praying for just the right ones) It’s a beautiful day today, not a cloud in the sky, and a week packed full of work. We are looking forward to a conference we at “Iglesia Bautista Vida Nueva” are hosting called “Muslim Mobilization” knowing how to reach and pray for this nation”. It will be held March 7. We have invited Scott Gustofson in to teach us. The kids are all doing well, looking forward to my mom, stepdad, sister, and bro-in-law to come in during Easter week!! I gotta run – big dentist appt. to get to:} Have an awesome week!
